Syphilis is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI). If it is not treated, it can cause serious health problems.

If you are pregnant, syphilis can pass to your baby during pregnancy, causing congenital syphilis (CS). CS can cause serious problems, including miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth, or health problems for your baby.

Did you know that Texas has more babies born with syphilis than the rest of the United States combined?

The good news is that testing is simple. If you are pregnant, testing usually happens at your first prenatal visit with a simple blood test. Your doctor should test you again later in pregnancy and when your baby is born.
